Samantha Koniska, DAATA level 1 groomer wanted to introduce us to Leya, a little york usually very sensitive to grooming and who arrived at the salon in a very tangled state.
She is normally a very well maintained little dog, but imponderables meant that for once Leya's owner was overwhelmed by the situation and was unable to properly maintain her little dog's coat.
Samantha couldn't use her blaster because Leya is afraid of it. She therefore carried out a complete DAATA detangling protocol, respecting first of all the physiology but also Leya's particular needs (sensitive behavior and fear of blaster).
Below is the protocol used by Samantha
Samantha used the Arom'terrapet range of cosmetics but had to do without the conditioner cream because her blender was out of service 😅
Instead she went with :
- The detangling spray (Facily'Coiff) that she left on while she adjusted her temperature (30°C) and prepared her detangling shampoo dilution (DoggyLiss).
- Applying Shampoo
- Brushing with shampoo
- Brushing while rinsing
- Application of the conditioner (Final Touch: it is ready to use, but she diluted it a little to raise it to 30°C)
- Brushing during the conditionong phase
- Brushing while rinsing, a little more pronounced but gentle, sticking the showerhead well to the roots and the brush following the water.
- Last rinse with 2 drops of organic apple cider vinegar (for its detangling properties)
- No blaster for her, it scares her
- A little tour in a microfiber towel, cuddling session 🥰
- Light conditioning spray (Condi'Liss)
- Brushing of the last knots, some had to be divided with scissors, but working by line and small quantity it was fine with the 2 brushes (the combs are only for control/detection and cutting)
- Drying once all knots have been removed
- Scissors
1h20 for everything.
For Post-bath knots she alternated her 2 brushes, both complementary - but drying with the nylon/boar one
Hugs throughout the grooming, she didn't say anything at all while she was easy comedy (a York indeed 😅)
